Jane Austin Themed Shoot

Goodness, it’s been a while since I last posted on here – my apologies.  Life has been busy with many fun, family lifestyle shoots taking place since the Spring – all of which are posted on my facebook page – so do go take a look!

However, last Monday the lovely Melissa Love organised a fantastic Jane Austin themed shoot in the grounds of Wiston House in West Sussex.  The day was orchestrated by some very talented people, all of which were a priviledge to work work with, and brought 40  photographers together from all over the country.  The result was 4 or 5 stunning scenes to photograph from a wedding in the walled garden, tea in the conservatory, a vintage picnic, a beautifully laid table in the Grand Hall and the grand finale which you can see for yourselves…  I hope you enjoy the results of a really fab day – you’ll see that not every wedding ends in ‘happily ever after’!

Best Friend’s Shoot

Remember being a teenager?  You’ve a best friend and you have to spend every minute talking, laughing, shopping, dancing in your bedroom – anything as long as you’re doing it together! Sure, life has its ups and downs but you can’t imagine ever not knowing each other or being there for each other.

Last week the sun came out – it was warm enough for cappucino’s outside in the Market Square in Petersfield.  And it was the perfect day for a ‘Best Friend’s Shoot’ with these two – how I wanted to be 14 again!

Love is in the air!

Love it or hate it – ‘that’ time of year is approaching yet again… VALENTINE’S DAY!

Some of you will already be planning and will have bought the card (and booked the restaurant) while the rest of you will be hoping it goes by with as little fuss as possible (“let’s get a DVD and stay in”).

To celebrate this year I’ve decided to do something completely different and give away a Family Lifestyle Portraiture Session for one family of up to 5 people (if you are just one person or a couple, or if you’ve got more than 3 kids don’t panic, that’s fine too!).  What’s the catch?  There isn’t one.  All you have to do is the following;

–  Share my Facebook page with all your friends inviting them to ‘like’ me.
– Ask them to post ‘LOVE VALENTINE’S DAY’ to my page (if you want to write something witty then go right ahead – the more the merrier!)
– Don’t worry – you can enter too – just do the same thing!
– The winning entry will be pulled from a hat on 14th February!

I”ll announce the winner(s) on February 14th on Facebook who will then receive the following all inclusive package;

– 1-2 hour lifestyle portraiture session on location in Hampshire – exact time and place tbc
– 2 weeks later you’ll come back to me for a private viewing of all images taken – expect to see approximately 40 – 70 images in total (depending on how many people are involved)
– a complimentary 10”x8” mounted print of your favourite image

Told you – nothing to it – so get ‘sharing & inviting’.
BOYS – this is a no-brainer and a great present for your loved one!!!!

My first front cover!

Ok, so it might not be Tatler or Vogue but I’m still very proud.  A shot I took of the gorgeous Katie & Chris back in the summer has been picked for the front cover of my fab local magazine Life in Petersfield!  Their Jan/Feb issue is focusing on What Women Want for Valentine’s Day…. a lifestyle portraiture session with Louise Bushell Photography of course. Just looking at this photo makes me feel warm and fuzzy…. !

Call me for more details of gift vouchers and portraiture sessions on 01730 262048 or email lou@louisebushellphotography.co.uk

New year, new beginnings

Baby Finn is just over 3 months old and completely divine with a delicious giggle and big blue eyes.  Last week we set about taking some photos of him, Lucy his gorgeous mum and Eila his beautiful 2 year old sister – well everyone loves a challenge!  It was minus degrees outside but warm and cosy in and I found the perfect light in the master bedroom so away we went.

Merry Christmas

I’d just like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

Hope you have a smashing time and I look forward to ‘blogging’ with you all next year.

Here’s my latest model – a very handsome working cocker spaniel who’ll do anything for a doggie chocolate drop!

I've been good, I promise!

The importance of a photograph

This summer I met up with a friend I’ve not seen since I was 14 – we were only at school together for 3 years before I moved away and we sadly lost touch.  The minute I saw her again I was taken back to a photograph of her, laughing with her hands in the air, taken just before we moved.  That photograph is in an old crumbling album on my bookshelf in my sitting room.  Whilst I don’t look at that album very often, I’ve grown up with it and it’s part of me and my childhood memories.

It’s why photographs are so important, pictures of family probably even more so than friends.  Whenever I’m asked to take photos of a family, I know these images are going to be with them forever.  It captures a moment in time, maybe only a few hours of one day, but it’s captured.  Children grow up with these images around them and will remember the day, what you were wearing, what they were wearing, the fun you had taking them.  Most of the time you are behind the camera and don’t appear together with the family as a whole – your children will want to look back at images of you as much as you want to remember them as they were before they got taller than you!

It’s a great gift to give a loved one – a Lifestyle Family Portraiture Session Gift Voucher – email me for more info lou@louisebushellphotography.co.uk

Here are a few of the families I’ve photographed this year – I hope you enjoy them.

Photograph of photographs!

How do you take a photograph of photographs?  That was exactly the question I was asked when approached by the inspirational new company www.friendsnaps.com.  Friendsnaps have launched a brand new product of creating photo quality posters out of all the profile pictures of your friends on facebook, they needed some promotional images to illustrate the finished product.  It needed to appeal to all ages – typically you’d imagine this being a teenage / student thing but they were keen to promote it to all generations by showing it could become more than a ‘poster’.  So, armed with two posters and a washing line (bit of creative thinking going on here!) I headed out into the freezing cold a few weeks ago.  I hadn’t banked on the wind – posters flap about quite alot!  So rather than my washing line idea between two trees, I positioned them against a wall – hence avoiding the wind lifting them – that’s the teenager / student image done.  Racing back into the warmth, I framed one in a simple black A1 frame which, when put up in a beautiful contemporary kitchen, becomes more of a funky work of art!  A few more images of the packaging and we were done – what do you think?  A great Christmas Present for someone I would say… and a company to seriously keep your eye on!

Location Shoots

Autumn has whizzed by in a whirl of stunning colours, wind and rain.  But when I was looking back at all the fab families I photographed over half-term I remembered one very warm (almost summer temperatures) day in the middle when I photographed this gorgeous family.  We decided to meet in Winchester – my suggestion – as I just love the grounds around the Cathedral and the walk down to the Water Meadows.  Lots of background textures to play with from wooden gates, old brick walls, leafy meadows – a photographer’s dream when thrown in with lovely autumn sunshine!
